Our Country, Our Problem

Whether you are from Limpopo, Western Cape of from the Great Eastern Cape, this message is for YOU...
Whether you are Black, White, Navy or Maroon, this message is for YOU...
Whether you are Rich or Poor, this message is for YOU...
Who are YOU??? Maybe you might ask... I am talking about the Youth of this rich beautiful blessed land we call South Africa... This rich beautiful blessed land we call HOME...

This message will start with a quote from one of the greatest critical thinkers I had ever had to share a classroom with:
“We have identified our problems, we somewhat know the solutions, but we fail to implement. Not because it is difficult or challenging (of which it is), but because we are not willing and we are not ready for change.”
-Litha Peter

Mr Litha continues and says:
I have been half studying the affairs of our “Beloved Rainbow Nation” for some time now. To date, my observation affirms my opening quote. This whole statement will seem to be of a nature of racism, classism and all the other “isms” of our nation, and that is true because a nation’s affairs are actually composed of all these things.

Now to illustrate my point:
What happens when you are drowning with a pocket full of gold blocks and diamonds? The logical answer for someone who values life would be to drop the goods and reach for the surface to get some air. Simple and easy!

Now the drowning person is our country, the gold and diamonds are all the political, racial and social affairs hat are dragging us down (reference is made to the opening paragraph: we have identified the problem (drowning), we know the solution (dropping the goods), we fail to implement, not ready for change (we don’t want to lose the gold and diamonds).) If we wanted to implement change we would prioritise it, and in the process, we would find ways in which we would retain our treasures after saving ourselves.

Example: drop the gold, go for oxygen and stay afloat to try and see where you are relative to any land or any sort of help. Once you get help, you can always TRY and dive back (with lifesaving gear this time) to go reclaim your treasures.
If not, that’s a loss, but not as much as losing your life.

Our country just doesn’t want to drop the gold (Political feuds that are funded with millions that could’ve been used to aid the real issues; Racism that suppresses progression and workmanship leading to many social and economic chokes; Classism which relates to the principle of monopoly, where only a select few gets and retains a bigger portion of the pie). This does not mean to say let us just forget everything and start loving one another blindly (although that would be ideal, by the book) that is not practical. What is needed is to put the differences on hold, tolerate each other (that’s what we are good at every day) and save our drowning country. Once that happens, we can press play again and resume the pillow fight.

NB!!!: Opening quote.
-Litha

Comments:

Is our beautiful country really drowning though?? I seem to agree with Mr Litha, and that is why this Blog exist, its must be utilised as a platform for such ideas. Enough is enough with the different political parties, I am calling upon the YOUTH of South Africa, we as the youth must brainstorm and take over. The Optic-Gen Revolution...

The man who said:
"the enemy of my enemy is my friend"
was a wise man, by the looks of things, his line has won many wars for ancient countries. Now why don't we the youth take his advice and take this country to a "better place" because our elders are taking it "somewhere", I think not even they know their destination. Let us not see in Black & White but focus on the many shades of grey for a couple of years, hey it might be decades, but it is for a better South Africa. We know our enemy as mentioned above, so as our solution, the only step remaining is "implementation", but we are busy with seeing in Black & White even though we have a common enemy.

Good evening Black and White people of South Africa, we have a common enemy, let us unite and set this beautiful land we all call home afloat, then, only then, we can "resume out pillow fight"

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
-Nelson Mandela

"It always seems impossible until it is done"
-Nelson Mandela

"I believe the Optic Generation can do it, no scratch that, will do it. I can't, but We can"
-Mzukhona Hlazo
