Where are my fellow Feminists at???
Self-Proclaimed Feminist!!!
The society we live in is gender bias,
young women are socialized into thinking that to be a proper girl you must be
domesticated. Girls who cannot cook are a disgrace and not marriage material because
females are seen as home makers not professionals or potential leaders. Women
in the work place are not taken seriously because men refuse to see them for
more than their sexuality. When my grandmother and I were watching the news she
was shocked to see that there was a female soccer team, Banyana Banyana because
even though they win more than Bafana Bafana they do not get as much attention.
Many people think that feminists are
a bunch of old ugly women who want to antagonize men because no one wants them.
As a feminist I don’t think men should be sent to Pluto and the world would
definitely NOT be better without
them but the goal of feminism is to try and empower women, young and old so that
they know their self-worth, potential and do not have to shrink themselves to
please the male ego. Feminism is about fighting for the rights of women so they
could be recognized not as subordinates that should submit to their husbands
but as equals. Women who do not want kids or cannot cook have not failed at
being women but are exercising their right to choose, which should be
acceptable. Women do not have a place in some confined space where men can tell
them what to do and they obey.
In many cases when a man is firm they
are seen as a strong leader but when it’s a women she is labeled as a bitch.
Women and men should have the same opportunities in the work place and in education.
So to women who are driven and ambitious and their goal in life is to work hard
and succeed that is okay and to the women who wish to stay at home and raise their
children that is also okay. Feminism is about choice and equality. Women have
been oppressed and seen as the “other” for many centuries it is their time to
rise and challenge the notion that women are less than men. For all the men who
are threatened by women empowerment there is no place for you in the 21 century
some men will even argue that feminism is un-Africa and others won’t be able to
comprehend how men can also be feminists. There is nothing un-African about
being a feminist the only un-African thing is not saying anything while our
sisters are suffering because of patriarchy. I was watching a documentary about
Thomas Sankara a true African leader and former President of Burkina Faso. In a
speech he was making he said no girl in his country would be chased out of
school for being pregnant as if she impregnated herself, he believed that men
and women should have the right to choose and be afforded the same
opportunities. Thomas Sankara was a men and an African but also a feminist.
Well people, this is what "Tata" had to say about the matter:
So gents, i think it's your turn to cook, clean and do the dishes. Someone, somewhere said something about a man who empowers his woman, but i forgot...
